Flinn Gallery enriches the Greenwich Library community and the public at large by presenting a diverse range of contemporary art exhibitions and related programs.
Opening September for the 2021-2022 season. The Flinn Gallery is a non-profit, education-oriented exhibition space that presents art in all mediums from a wide range of periods, visions, and techniques. The Gallery Committee, comprised of over 50 volunteers (if interested in volunteering click here
) Curating 5 – 6 exhibits per year from September to June. Each exhibition features an opening reception and related events. The Gallery attracts close to 10,000 visitors annually.
In 1928, librarian Isabelle Hurlbutt secured space and funding for a group of local professional artists (Greenwich Society of Artists) to establish a gallery in the original Greenwich Library on Greenwich Avenue, the current site of Saks Fifth Avenue. In 1960, the library moved to its present location on West Putnam Avenue, the former site of the Franklin Simon women’s apparel store, and was named the Hurlbutt Gallery, in honor of its visionary founder, Isabelle Hurlbutt. In 1999 the library was re-designed by architect Cesar Pelli. The state-of-the-art gallery moved to its current location on the 2nd floor of the Peterson Wing and renamed the Flinn Gallery in honor of Stephanie and Lawrence Flinn, The inaugural exhibit was Molly and Walter Bareiss – Sixty Years of Collecting.

the first exhibition of Flinn Gallery’s 2021-2022 season, highlights the artwork of Shiela Hale, Chris Perry, Andrew Sovjani, and Erin Walrath
, whose works celebrate the beauty and materiality of books. It also heralds the reopening of the Flinn Gallery and joyously welcomes the return of three-dimensional artworks to the space.
Co-curated by Flinn Gallery Members Leslee Asch and Kira Albinsky, Not By The Book will be on view from September 23 to December 8, 2021.
Thursday, September 23 is the opening reception of Not By The Book in the Flinn Gallery on the 2nd Floor of Greenwich Library from 6 to 8 pm. Please note that the gallery is complying with the COVID-19 protocol of masks required at all times. As a result, no refreshments will be served.
